Black Jack Ova 1

Black Jack Ova 1
  • Kuroo Hazama, or widely known as Dr. Black Jack, is the main protagonist in both the manga and anime series. He is known as an unlicensed master surgeon who charges ridiculous fees to many people. He lives with Pinoko (and Largo in the 2004 TV series) in a house on a cape in Japan, overlooking the beach. He is voiced by Akio Otsuka in almost every anime series, with the exception of Young.
  • Black Jack's OVA is a medical drama of an anime that spans 12 episodes. Each story within an episode focuses on the world-renowned doctor Black Jack performing some good act, although he rarely receives the recognition such acts deserve.

In Part 1, Black Jack's latest patient holds a link to Pinoko's past. In Part 2, Black Jack is kidnapped by the government of a war-torn country. Black Jack Final OVA Slated for December 16.

The OVA started in 1993 and ended in 2000. That's the whole OVA, ending with episode 10.
A decade later, after the director has passed away, people decided to pay him a tribute by making two more episodes called 'Black Jack Final'.
Now the question is, why is that one entry on MAL? It wasn't a production break or anything. The OVA was finished at episode 10, and 11 years later they made a sequel. Why wasn't the Final OVA added as a sequel but was rather merged as one entry? It's also a recent edit well into the split cour era, so it's not a case like Card Captor Sakura (which was still a production break, rather than sequels).
Can some mods explain me why Black Jack Final is merged with Dezaki's Black Jack and not set as a sequel?

They announced the new OVA as the 11th episode back when it happened so that is how we treat the new episodes.

Is that a good enough reason though? Aren't there split cour shows that do the same with the numbers? Isn't the decade between them a good reason not to include them as one thing? It does have the Final in its name, that already makes it have a different name than the first OVA.

The title of the series is different though, all the others are labeled as Black Jack, but this is subtitled Black Jack: Final

The mods' argument is invalid, as in many series on here for multiple seasons the episode count continues from the original but is counted as a separate entry on here. Ex: Kuroko no Basket, JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Stardust Crusaders, Ushio to Tora.
AnimeDB lists them as a separate entry also

Bump, this still needs to be addressed more thoroughly by mods rather than just using episode count as validation

window.MAL.madoka = 'hZrDKm9k6FVRnqd3i%=K';

Those are all TV Series and Black Jack is an OVA. For TV Series it makes sense to separate them if there are breaks in between the broadcasting periods, but OVAs aren't broadcast and generally released irregularly so combining them, under certain circumstances, makes more sense, which is why it says so in the Guidelines for OVAs and Specials specifically.
It's also not a special case that the 11th/12th OVA episodes had an episode subtitle attached to it. That alone doesn't mean they have to get their own entry though. The rule about combining OVAs into one entry is still relevant since it was specifically announced as the 11th episode.
If you still think what I say is invalid feel free to contact other mods, maybe you'll find one that agrees with you. But it won't be me, based on the information I have.
